The Marlborough House Approach

Our practitioners have been providing a caring and supportive environment since 1997. We tailor our therapies to suit your wants and needs. Our practitioners work with you to guide you towards a happier future.

A sympathetic, professional Marlborough House counselor can help you identify what troubles you. Your counselor can help you face your problem and can offer a practical action plan to help you regain your health, happiness and wellbeing.

Most of your session time will be spent with you talking to your counselor or answering our questions. All our counselors are good listeners. You will feel reassured that you are not alone. Simply talking and sharing the burden can make a huge difference in how you feel.

We offer counselling to people of all ages, including children and teenagers. If you are suffering from depression or anxiety, or if you feel as if your life is not going anywhere, we can help.

Even if the reason for your unhappiness seems obvious to you, there are often longstanding issues that are rooted in your childhood. Things that happened long ago in your life can influence what is happening to you today.

Psychotherapy can help you identify and understand these forgotten influences. Once you understand, you can move on and regain your inner strength and happiness.

The initial visit is a period for you and the Marlborough House therapist to get to know each other. An important part of the psychotherapy process is building a good relationship between you and the practitioner. You will be asked what you believe is wrong in your life and about the symptoms you are experiencing. We will ask you to talk about your childhood, education, family, friends and work.

Psychotherapy is a long-term process. The therapy is about equipping you to recognise and use your inner strengths. You will learn how to recalibrate your life. After a course of sessions, you could find that your life is easier to manage and enjoy.

Just as professional athletes, movie stars, business managers, CEOs and political leaders use personal coaches, so can you. A personal coach can provide support, pinpoint your limitations, assist you in eliminating what limits you and can offer competent advice. A personal coach from Marlborough House can help make your life better.

When you meet with a personal coach, you learn how to stop any unwanted thoughts that come up repeatedly in your mind. You learn how to change your behaviour if it involves outbursts of anger, sadness, depression, anxiety and fear of failure.

Many people do not know how their system of beliefs and attitudes influence the quality of their lives. Their perception is clouded by their experiences and interpretations as to why they cannot succeed. A Marlborough House personal coach can teach you a new way of thinking and how to be successful in your life.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a method used to explain human behaviour. Since its formulation in the 1970s, NLP practitioners have amassed a vast compilation of information and insights into the ways in which we perceive and relate to the world and to other people.

Our trained therapists at Marlborough House use NLP’s systematic approach to improve your thinking so that you can transform your behaviour. We first talk with you and ask you a wide range of questions about your lifestyle, likes, dislikes and medical history.

Sessions with an NLP practitioner at Marlborough House can help you with a wide range of debilitating problems and conditions by empowering you to change.

Hypnotherapy is a safe, established therapy with a proven track record in helping people overcome many types of problems. With hypnotherapy, you learn while your mind is relaxed.

People operate from a set of beliefs and assumptions that they have stored throughout their lives in their subconscious mind. Some of these assumptions and beliefs limit the progress people can make in their lives.

In a typical hypnotherapy session at Marlborough House, you talk about your problems and explain the difficulties of your situation. Your therapist will ask you to relax, deepening your relaxation by talking to you.

While the practitioner is speaking to you, you receive a message to facilitate the learning that needs to happen. This is done through reminders, suggestions or stories. After the therapist has delivered the message, you are called back to a fully conscious state.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a therapy that treats you holistically as an individual. EFT helps free you from negative emotions that can block your natural flow of bodily energy, which directly affects your health and wellbeing. EFT offers you a release from stress-related conditions.

When you meet with an EFT practitioner at Marlborough House, your practitioner will ask you to think clearly about your problem. As you are thinking, you will be asked to measure your problem’s intensity on a scale of 1 to 10. Your practitioner will then tap a sequence of points on your body until you feel that the intensity of your emotions has come down to zero.

With EFT therapy, the negative energy that has been disturbing you is dispelled, and your feelings of distress diminish. Your session finishes with useful tips and techniques that you can use at home in case your problem reoccurs.

Psychometric Testing

Psychometric testing measures a person’s strengths and weaknesses, typically for jobs. Psychometric testing shows you which jobs would likely be a good fit for you.

When you have psychometric testing done at Marlborough House, you undergo personality assessments and cognitive testing. We can then help you use this information to determine how you can improve your skills so that you can achieve better work performance.

Once you have a better understanding of yourself, you can have better relationships with people at work. You might discover some new interests or hidden traits that you have not yet pursued but that the tests show you might enjoy. Psychometric testing can help you achieve overall satisfaction in your career.

Parenting Skills

Being a parent is not always easy and often feels like the most difficult responsibility you have ever faced. As your children grow and develop, they can make seemingly impossible demands on you. Feeling helpless and powerless does not mean that you are a bad parent. You might simply need some sympathetic guidance and support.

The parenting course at Marlborough House consists of six 60-minute sessions. After each session, we encourage you to try the skills you have learned. Throughout the sessions, you can talk through your own particular parenting problems. You should quickly gain new confidence and regain control of your role as a parent. Your children’s behaviours should start to improve immediately.
